Mosey Loves Jessie Ingram

I’m one of the lucky ones who get’s to call Jessie a friend. We met through mutual friends a while back now and have remained close all these years later. Since I’ve known Jessie it has always been a delight when she invites you over for dinner, or a soiree at hers as you know you're going to be treated to delicious food in surrounds that felt like a magazine spread!
She has a knack for making a space beautiful but with meaning, and a curated eye that always finds interesting ways of pulling things together. Her environments are always warm, friendly and inviting.

We are so excited to take you into interior designer Jessie Ingram's home!

What star sign are you?
I am a Virgo through and through - just ask anyone who knows me haha

Where are you located?
Armadale, Melbourne

What do you do for a living?
I am an Interior Designer, currently working in major events

How have you ended up on this career path, was this industry something you wanted to pursue or have you happily stumbled into it?
My design journey has been a round about one, not always centralised around interiors.
I started working in wholesale fashion in my early 20’s and spent several years working and learning from someone who was an incredible mentor to me. I then decided to take some time out and spent a few years travelling and living around the world, meeting incredible people and exploring without limits.
After almost five years abroad, I returned to Melbourne and decided it was time to follow my dream of becoming an Interior Designer.

How do you find inspiration for projects, past and present?
Inspiration for me comes from so many places, my travels, fashion runways, a particular object or artwork, a book.
I also love referencing history when planning a project. This allows the design to consider its past, whilst developing into something fresh and new. The main thing that inspires all my projects is the idea of doing something that has never been done before, something that is going to excite and inspire the client.
I am not one for following trends, but rather referencing the archives and putting together a picture that tells the story of the space and the client.

What’s your creative process like? Does it always start the same way?
My creative process always starts with meeting and talking with the client.
Their needs and how they would like to experience the space are what set’s the tone for the project and enables me to develop a brief moving forward.
These meeting are a great opportunity not just to find out about the project, but to get to know the client.
Tap in here and you will find an incredible source of inspiration that will allow you to develop a space that tells your clients story and makes the space completely unique to them.

What has been a career highlight for you so far on your journey?
Every project is a highlight for me, I know that sounds cliché but I can honestly say that when you come to the end of a project that often takes many months to complete it’s such an incredible feeling!
The client is wrapped, the space looks beautiful and you can walk away knowing you have made a positive impact in someone’s life that they will cherish.

What has been a career challenge you’ve faced?
The biggest challenge for me was making the decision to go back to uni at 28.
Creativity has always been an innate skill of mine and I’ve always had an eye for design, therefore I was able to get away with working in the industry without actually having a qualification.
But after a few years it became obvious that if I wanted to take things to the next level I would need to go back and study. This was a hard pill to swallow, but it turned out to be the best decision I ever made.

Now to your beautiful home! How long have you lived here?
Almost five years

What is your favourite room in your apartment and why?
I love my bedroom! It receives the most beautiful natural light and has a really pretty aspect.

From talking with you throughout our photoshoot, I couldn’t help but notice you have collected many objects on overseas adventures that decorate your home. What does travel mean to you and your creativity?
Travel is everything to me. The places I have lived and travelled are a constant source of inspiration in my projects and help me to establish a point of difference in my designs. There is nothing I love more than spending hours cursing the shops and markets of the world looking at the weird and the wonderful. When you find that piece that makes you stop and go “Wow” then you know you’ve got something to start working with.

Do you have a favourite piece in your home? If so, why?
It’s definitely too hard to choose just one, but my French mid-century shelving unit is definitely up there! It doesn’t have one screw and supports itself with it’s own weight and three steel ladders, one on each side and one in the middle. Incredible!

Do you have any easy go to styling tips for our readers?
Don’t be afraid to mix and match!
Bringing pieces together from different periods works to create a visually interesting space.
Also look for pieces with great form and or texture, as these will add personality and bring your space to life.
Remember that it’s your space and it needs to work for you and make you happy!

And lastly, what is your favourite piece from our Mosey Me range and why?
I absolute love ALL of the Mosey Me tableware!
The tablecloths and napkins are so beautiful and prefect for creating that fun dinner party vibe!
