Who run the world? Girls!

This Mother's Day, we’re celebrating the chaos, charm, and coffee-fueled magic of juggling Mum and business life.

We talked to three powerhouse women who are not only brilliant entrepreneurs but also incredible Mums... our very own Jessie and Eliza, plus the inspiring Fi Tunks, founder of The Commonfolk, our latest brand collaboration partner. From business to bedtime routines, we chatted all things motherhood, multitasking, and what they really want this Mother’s Day (spoiler: it's not flowers!).

What surprised you most about becoming a Mum?

I think it's surprising just how much more you have to give. Before kids you think you're killing it in life (haha) and achieving so much. Then this whole other level of capacity shows up after you have kids.  A higher capacity to love, to grow, more capacity to hold space for others, and somehow you can get soooo much more done. Watching your kids grow through each stage, also teaches you a lot about yourself along the way - often in surprising ways.

What do you actually want for Mother’s Day?

Home made cards have always been my number one request on Mother’s Day - it's actually a non-negotiable and it's been a tradition in our family for years. When I was growing up no matter how old we got, we all had to hand-make our cards - we made some very funny ones over the years. And the tradition is with our kids, we have kept them all. We have some adorable ones from when the kids were little, some have been very sentimental, many hilarious (there’s a lot of banter and jokes).  It’s absolutely my favorite thing to get. Following that perhaps I’d want breaky in bed and maybe a self care gift (I’ve already gifted myself our Mosey Me Gift Pack of course.)

What’s your hack for making working Mum life a little bit easier?

For me, it’s starting the morning early! I start my work day before everyone gets up so that I've had 2 hours of project work before the morning rush. This way anything urgent is ticked off and the rest can be worked on once the kids are at school. During this time I tend to only work on bigger tasks that require more concentration or flow, and not checking emails or everyday tasks, I get those later in the day. I also take a short break just before the kids home so I’m ready to switch hats. But at the end of the day - we are all just winging it aren’t we!

If you could meet any Mum in the world (dead or alive) who would it be?

I know this should be a random Mum, but I would do anything to meet with my own Mum again, she passed away some time ago now and I would just love to have one more conversation, one more hug and have her see my beautiful kids again - they miss her so much. She taught me many life lessons and I feel lucky that she was my mum, but it’s still incredibly hard without her. Boy was she one-in-a-million, growing up she was a second mum to so many of our friends too, she really was just some kind of wonderful!

What surprised you most about becoming a Mum?

Everything! The hard life turn from pre-parenting into parenting is so real and nothing I could have been prepared for. I found that first year particularly hard and really struggled to ever find time for myself (granted I did have a Covid baby so it had an extra layer of difficulty!). But genuinely, I didn’t realise how hard it would be to get any time back for myself.

What do you actually want for Mother’s Day?

A sleep in! I never know how my night is going to go with my 6 month old and 4 year old so a guaranteed sleep in would be fab. However, I’m also loving anything from Cleopatra's Bling! Loving this Moon pendant in particular.

What’s your hack for making working Mum life a little bit easier?

Friends! I have about a 45 minute commute to and from work which I use to call my friends and chat about all the failures, the feels, the wins and the struggles! It’s a support I couldn’t live without really and I also have a very supportive partner at home. Sometimes we sit up late when we know we should go to bed, we just laugh at how chaotic it all is and act like we aren’t parents for an hour or so. Everything is more manageable after a good laugh!

If you could meet any Mum in the world (dead or alive) who would it be?

Cher! She is an absolute boss with a great sense of humour and I’d love to have a wine and a laugh with her.

What surprised you most about becoming a Mum?

Oh wow, so much. But I think the kind of capacity for your world to expand was surprising to me. I really thought life was full before having my kids, but now it’s just so much bigger, in all the ways. SO much busier of course, but also more interesting, funnier, gentler, more challenging and sweeter. Hard to explain, which is probably why I didn’t expect it before I became a Mum!

What do you actually want for Mother’s Day?

It’s a cliché, but breakfast in bed made by my hubby and kids. My babes are pretty young, but my older one (who’s almost four) loves getting involved in food prep and feels so proud when she makes something. I just can’t wait to see the smile on her face when she brings it to me. I honestly don’t care what it is, as long as I don’t have to make it and can stay in bed that little bit longer!

What’s your hack for making working Mum life a little bit easier?

Doing it alongside other working parents. When you get that dreaded call from kinder or you’ve been up all night with a kid who won’t sleep, having people around you that get it and will cut you the slack you need makes it soo much easier.

If you could meet any Mum in the world (dead or alive) who would it be?

I’d actually love to have dinner with my best friend who lives in Sydney and has 2 kids. She’s a great Mum who’s taught me so much about patience and perspective in parenting, and I miss hanging out with her (since I moved back to Melbourne a few years ago). Would love if our kids had more time to hang out and get to know each other.
