Mosey Loves: K.A.

Mosey Loves: K.A.
We can’t wait for you to meet our latest Mosey muse, K.A. This creative loves sharing her colourful, maximalist style on social media with her community. Whether she’s curating her flamboyant home or inspiring her followers with her quirky and cool fashion choices, her effervescent personality is nothing if not contagious. Not afraid to share her true self on the internet, she inspires others to do so as well, and has cultivated an inclusive community where she creates and spreads Joy with a capital “J”.
Living with her partner in their first home in Eden Hill, Western Australia, we were so excited to learn more about how this eclectic creative fills her cup, how she found her voice online and how their unique home came to be.

1. What star sign are you? How do you feel it relates to your personality? I’m a Leo through and through. I am flamboyant, full of arrogant confidence, I know a lot about nothing and if I don’t know anything about something I’ll act like I do and because I’m so confident you’ll believe me 😫🤭🤣. I’m also so loyal, soft and loving. I’ll do anything for you and make sure you’re well looked after. Ask anyone around me, they’ll roll their eyes at how much of a Leo I am 🤪

2. Where do you live and why do you call this place home?
We live in a beautiful 1950’s build that holds a lot of history and love. It’s in the heart of Eden Hill and it’s our first home. I couldn’t imagine life outside of these walls anymore. I don’t think it’s a space that could be anything else other than our home. We are a double income no kids home so we have a LOT of fragile things including our little hearts but mainly our trinkets and collected items from travels or thrifting. It’s our home simply because we made it ours. We adore living here and are so grateful to have a space that is safe and our little sanctuary.

3. Your home is so vibrant and unique. Tell us a bit about how you developed your interior style?
My partner and I are both ADHD and have a serious need for dopamine. There’s a lot of creativity in us both and it’s very obvious when you see our home. I also love to collect things that are quirky/ugly/wonky and interesting to look at. I love colour and I love telling a story with colour. I also ADORE a good maximalist space. It offers respite from my busy brain - mainly because focusing on different spaces allows me to settle my mind and distract myself. I really enjoy jumping from one interesting spot to another. I get a lot of joy from our flamboyant home.

4. Who makes up your home? And where do your family gravitate most to in the home?
We are a queer couple, our community is our family. We have people over almost every single night for a meal or a board game, mostly both. It’s been such a wonderful healing journey. We are both lucky enough to have our family who love us, but there is something about a community full of unique experiences, devastating journeys, wonderful minds, amazing creativity and sensational humour that just makes our house a home. I can’t explain the buzz it has. Being Filipina, I love to cook and entertain, the kitchen is the heart of the home, the dining room being a close second but being realistic it’s more like the tummy, we do a lot of debating and digesting in that space, our theatre room is a space to hang out and zone out. So if I had to summarise that? It’s our kitchen 😂😂😂

5. What were you like growing up? What were your interests and hobbies?
I was a really strange and weird kid. I loved using my hands to be creative, I once built a whole outdoor kitchen takeaway cafe from cardboard boxes, leaves and anything I could find outside as food and old takeaway containers my mum would keep. I’d force my dad to be my customer and order rock stew 🤭. In high school I had a lot of friends and floated a heap but that didn’t stop me from getting bullied. I loved my theatre classes and I reckon it was my art teacher that kept me in school until year 10 😂 as soon as I had an opportunity to leave, I was out of there! My twenties was a write off. I danced with substance abuse and denied who I was (queer). I’m not proud of who I was, but I am so proud of who I became in spite of all that. Happy to be close to my 40’s and living my most authentic life.

6. I Find your content so refreshing, your tone and the way you speak about style, how it makes you feel and the self love that comes across through it all. It genuinely feels like you always have your own back. Have you always had that inherit knowing about yourself?
Oh absolutely not, if anything, I was more afraid about being my true self because of my own rejection sensitivity, who will I lose? Who will judge me? Now as I grow into my boots I feel more at ease. My twenties was all about breaking in my new favourite pair of shoes and in my late 30’s the shoes aka my little mind and soul, finally feels like the most comfortable pair of shoes I own. I love who I am, I want people to have the same feeling. I also feel like I am a product of my environment. I don’t think I have the words to explain the power of my community of friends. They have made me more aware, accountable and responsible. I owe it to them to become a better version of myself.

7. Tell us a little bit about your creative journey and how/why you started intentionally sharing more of your world with the internet?
I started this journey because I had lost my spark. I had an awful break-up (lesbian relationships are not for the weak 🥲😆) and I had poured so much of myself into that relationship, I was set on not failing and making it work regardless of how broken it was. And so I started showing up online as an attempt to save myself. I was drowning in my own self-doubt and low self-esteem. I knew my style was cute but wanted to push myself more and I knew showing up would mean I could build a routine and commit to becoming something outside of my ex. I felt like I had to be little, like I was a lot for her. But I was wrong. I started posting videos owning my shape and size and weirdness and just did the damn thing. A year and a bit later I have a community of loving folks and I need you to pinch me. Cause this can’t be real!

8. Where do you draw inspiration from in your style, home and life in general?
Hmmm, I love being inspired by the cool girls on the internet doing things that aren’t trending but are SICK. I also just pluck things from my brain which blows me away. I dunno where I come up with half the shit I do. Sometimes people will ask about the colour story of my home. To be honest? It was all just a *bugger it let’s just give it a go*. I try not to think too much about it all. I’ll end up getting my knickers in a knot.

9. How do you fill your creative cup and recharge?
By coming back to my mother's country. The Phillipines. The creativity and innovation comes from necessity. Filipinos are some of the most talented and creative people I’ve ever encountered. What do you mean we can all sing, dance and act? 🤭🤭🤭 in all seriousness though, the colourful culture and nature of the people is so unique and beautiful. I always feel most myself here, in the Phillipines. We try to go back every year and every year I learn more about myself and leave more inspired than ever.

10. When you want to bring some new furniture or bulky home items into your space how do you go about finding them.. are you a marketplace kind of gal? Or a straight to the store kind of gal?
We designed our dining table and that was so intentional but also such an accidental thing. We are usually marketplace people cause I mean, who wants to pay thousands for pieces when you can find them (most of the time) for a lot less. In saying that, if I see something in a store or online that I love? You better BELIEVE I have a tracking number in my inbox 🤩🙃😇

11. What is your favourite room in your home and why?
Our bedroom is pretty bloody magnificent. Our second story was built somewhere around the early 2000's and was built on top of the already high ceilings in our home. So it’s weirdly high, the best part about that is that we are amongst the tree tops. So we call it our tree home. We colour drenched it in a leafy green and made it so cosy. If I’m not in the kitchen? I’m in our bedroom!

12. And lastly, what is your favourite piece or category from our Mosey Me range & why?
I am OBSESSED with the bedding. Like weirdly obsessed. My partner has texture challenges and they love the Mango Seeksucker Quilt Cover. But for me personally, I was blown away by the towel quality. So soft, so comfortable and the robe. Actually if I’m honest? I’m just obsessed with Mosey Me
